The 2. I found these adaptors about half an inch in size that converts any 2. I now can use any headphone or casset adaptor. Works great. I personaly was disapointed with the p. Been extreamly happy with it. Only problem I had was with early versions of the firmware were horribly unstable. Zlauncher as a shell replacement face it the palm os launcher is UGLY Pocket express add on for the direction, phone book, wonderfull app Mobi-office — found too many problems with doc2go when dealing with thousands of documents.
Mobi-office works better for me. Trips Deluxe — tracks my milage and client time for billing Turbo passwords — I have to track thousands of passwords, user Turbo password for this Beyond contacts — Outlook sync and pim managerment. Butler, cardexport, CZ Call manager, Filez, Handzip, KBlights rand apps to make life easier Work apps include I work on servers remotely MobileTs — Remote desktop viewer, terminal services Palmvnc — vnc client pssh — Ssh console program used probably times an hour PDAnet and usbmodem lets me use palm as usb data modem Ptunes — gotta get my daily shoutcast comedy streams.
I will never be bored. As you can see I work the living heck out of my treo, and would be worried about how all there apps run, and how stable they are. The Sprint software store has been included way back with the treo You mentioned in the review that the P comes with a voice dialing software package.
Does it work well? I am totally used to voice dialing and the absence of it in the P either hard wired or via software would be a deal killer for me. By the way, voice dialing makes a phone much safer to use in the car. IT does not require training and is very accurate.
It reads the contacts from your contact list. After importing new company contact lists I probably has close to 50, contacts listed in my address book. The program would crash on index. I have since moved my buisness contacts to another contact manager that is not linked to the palm phone application and only have contacts, and program is quick, and instant in looking up numbers. I suspect the Voice Dial is primarily geared toward the North American speech pattern.
Asian and mabbe European users may have difficulty using it. My question on Treo p is on Bluetooth 1. As a Treo user for the last 14 months, I can tell you that I was not even remotely tempted by the p.
My New Every Two renews next March, and unless Palm can come up with something better than the p, I will hold on to my a while longer. I do not live anywhere near EVDO coverage, I barely get any coverage at all, and only Verizon provides service in my area mid-Hudson Valley with any decent reception. My only bugaboo with Verizon is that their data coverage in the middle of the country where I go storm-chasing every summer is terrible. Otherwise, the Treo is still the best handheld device I have ever owned!
The big thing about Bluetooth 1. Big improvement! The low resolution screen would probably be a big con in my opinion…. There are SD wifi cards that work with Windows Mobile devices including the w. The signal indicator also only has 4 bars, but it is a different graphic than the one from the Well, I have an SD wifi card running on my Zodiac.
See, the lack of RAM would be a detriment for me. Since there is so little resident non-volatile RAM available on the , I would have a lot of stuff on a 2Gb card, which would mean that I would be swapping that sucker in and out all the time.
Any know where I can get beta drivers for the Treo P for windows vista? Just got my new p and plugged it into vista… no go…. Well I said that I would not upgrade to the p from my But an accident where the screen decided to become a piece jigsaw puzzle changed that idea.
Lucky I did have insurance on the phone. I requested a , but they did replace it with a p. I did not like the layout of the menu and phone buttons on the p. Memory was never a concern since all my apps ran on sd card anyways. Well 3 months have passed. I have adapted to the button change with minimal disconfort. Higher res camera is nice, but since I have a digital camera I rarely use my phone as one.
Not a deal breaker either way for me. The views expressed on this website are solely those of the proprietor, or contributors to the site, and do not necessarily reflect the views of palm, Inc. Read Merciful by Casey Adolfsson. A first look Photo Gallery. Print this page. On the left side you'll find the volume up and down buttons which control both system and ring volume when not in a call and call volume when in a call.
Below these you'll find another application button which you can assign to whatever you like-- i. MS Voice Command or the camera. The user replaceable battery lives under a door on the back of the unit and the camera lens and self portrait mirror are on the back as well. Call quality is excellent, even with 1 or 2 bars 4 bars are max on Windows Mobile and we prefer Sprint's incoming voice quality overall to Verizon.
Voices are full and clear and volume is very good and louder than the GSM Treo Volume through the headset is very loud and will beat out midtown Manhattan traffic handily. Reception is average for a Sprint phone, managing similar signal strength to the Samsung a and BlackBerry e but not as strong as the Treo p.
Web browsing and downloading email with attachments are a breeze on the wx, though our dsleports. We'd generally expect closer to k on a weekend in our area, but tower congestion may be a factor. You are supposed to add on Sprint's PAM phone as modem plan if you wish to use the phone as a high speed wireless modem for a notebook. Alas, x isn't supported by Windows Mobile 5 , so you will see less on screen compared to the Palm OS Treo and Treo p which run at x Will the lower resolution bother you?
If you're a power user who needs to see the most on screen when browsing the web or viewing a spreadsheet, then yes. If you love to play games not many support x , then yes. If you just want to use the phone lots, don't plan on adding lots of non- square resolution compliant software or playing games that don't support x , then the resolution should work fine for you. Personally, I'm not bothered by the Treo's resolution except when web browsing; you just don't see much of a web page on screen at this resolution.
Putting Internet Explorer Mobile into full screen mode which hides the top and bottom menu bars does help. The transflective display itself is bright and colorful and at 2. Though not as bright as the Treo p, it's certainly more than adequate and is quite viewable outdoors when viewing text and icons though the camera's full screen viewfinder does wash out when taking photos.
The display has virtually no color cast, unlike our Verizon Treo w which has a slight blue color cast. We believe that Palm uses several suppliers for their LCDs, so the variation may be due to that rather than differing product lines. Since the operating system supports both portrait and landscape orientations, you can flip the display to landscape but this is pointless given the square resolution and the keyboard being utterly out of place for landscape use.
The Treo wx's speaker has very ample volume. Alarms, ringtones and general audio out through the large rear-firing speaker will get your attention. The speaker is located on the back so you're not accidentally deafened when an alarm goes off while you're holding the phone to your head in conversation. The speakerphone is very loud and clear as well. As with the Verizon Treo w whose results are nearly identical , the results aren't stunning for a file encoded at a fairly low bitrate but it manages just fine with videos under kbps.
Frame Rate: 24fps Orig. There's no nice way to say it; the camera generally takes dark and colorless photos. It's no worse than the Treo w but any Nokia, high end LG phone on Verizon and even some of the Samsungs take much better photos. The 1. You may save images to internal memory or an SD card in one of three quality settings and set the image prefix as you wish.
The Treo can shoot video with audio you can turn off audio if you like and you can set a 15 second, 30 second or no limit on duration. The phone saves videos in. Like still shots, video is lacking in color, and is of average quality compared to other US camera phones with less jerkiness than most. Audio is recorded at 8kHz and our samples reported video at 26 fps. You can view videos on the Treo using the included Windows Media Player and on the desktop using QuickTime or other applications.
There are 60 megs of storage memory free on the Treo, which is a generous helping of space. Since it's a Windows Mobile 5 device it features persistent storage which means your data will survive a complete battery drain. The unit feels fast and responsive, and like the Treo w it feels a bit faster than the Sprint PPC Pocket PC Phone which has a faster processor and benchmarked faster than the Treo. Speaking of benchmarks, the Treo pair lost nearly every Spb Benchmark test, yet they feel more responsive when opening menus, scrolling through windows and running core apps than other Windows Mobile 5.
Palm must have done a great job caching frequently used core apps and related files without using much memory— doubly impressive. While the Treo w and Treo wx feel identical in speed when freshly booted, the wx is still fast at the end of the day while the w on Verizon often slows down unless we manually close applications to keep enough RAM free.
The bundle is nearly identical to the Verizon version but Sprint adds On Demand actually the full version of the excellent Handmark Pocket Express and Good's push email client.
