I've never used that but it's supposed to automate the process nicely. However, very small offices generally take a chance and only have 1 domain controller since they usually have just 1 or 2 servers.
Don't just pick any server to be a second DC, make sure that server is not very busy or already running an intense application like SQL or Exchange or something like that. If I need to failover, I have a batch file that will import the backup from the other server, then away it goes. That can lead to issues depending on your lease time if the leases have not expire d and the replenishment unit is assigning addresses that are already assigned. Seems to happen even with conflict detection, so using a separate range is the safe bet.
I have a second Server box that has nothing on it except Server. I will be promoting that box to a secondary AD server today. Also avoids conflict and leasing issues like Tim pointed out above. Here is the technet documentation on this. Really depends on needs, etc.
